Berkshires’ Community Orchestra

We are a 52-year-old community orchestra of some 65 players who get together in the spring and summer to rehearse and perform classical music. We perform several free concerts throughout Berkshire County each August.

The Stockbridge Sinfonia originated in the summer of 1972 at a home in Lenox as an informal chamber group. Among the founders were flutist Joy Robin Dronge (pictured here), violinist Teresa Furtado Ouellette, and conductor Leonard Marcus. In 1972, the group moved rehearsals to a classroom at the Stockbridge Plain School and then to Procter Hall in the Stockbridge Town Hall.

The Stockbridge Sinfonia is a unique multi-generational full symphony orchestra that undertakes ambitious orchestral works. It is the largest and longest operating community orchestra in the Berkshires. The Stockbridge Sinfonia uses music as a tool to develop the leadership of youth, recognize the talents of adults and build community across Berkshire County. All of this is accomplished through our mission of “classical music for the love and fun of it!”
